The Honorable Donald J. Trump
President of the United States
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C., 20500

Dear President Trump:

On behalf of the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD), we are writing to you for a second time to urge you to uphold the 2012 Executive Order that initiated the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The DACA program protects young men and women who were brought to the United States as children, allowing them to pursue their studies and complete their education at the postsecondary level. These young people were not and are not responsible for the decisions of others to bring them to this country at an early age and they are deserving of our support.

The San Diego Community College District enrolls a total of 105,000 students at City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges and seven campuses of Continuing Education. Approximately 500 members of our student body are DACA students who are hardworking and successful in pursuing their studies. These students are optimistic and hopeful about the future because of the security provided by the DACA program. They have bright futures ahead of them in the workforce and further studies.

The elimination of the DACA program would be contrary to the principles of access and support that are so important to and fundamental in American culture. The students affected would be denied the future they deserve and our community and region would lose some of the most promising young people who are destined to contribute to the local economy and workforce.

We strongly urge you to maintain the DACA program and ensure that these young men and women have the chance to succeed and to experience the opportunities afforded by this great and compassionate nation.

Sincerely,

Constance M. Carroll, Ph.D.
Chancellor

Maria Nieto Senour, Ph.D.
President, Board of Trustees
