Cosmetology students giving free haircuts, face paintings at the fair
More than 30 San Diego City College cosmetology students will provide free haircuts, manicures, and face paintings at the San Diego County Fair on Friday, June 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The haircuts, manicures, and face paintings are part of the San Diego Community College District’s “Start Something Amazing Day” at the fair, which is aimed at highlighting all that the district has to offer. The SDCCD is the region’s largest provider of workforce training and education, and student ambassadors from City, Mesa, and Miramar College and Continuing Education will be on hand to distribute informational brochures and answer questions about programs and enrollment.
Cosmetology students will be stationed at the Student Showcase area of the Grandstand.
“Start Something Amazing Day at the San Diego County Fair is an opportunity to showcase our talented students as well as the numerous certificate, degree and transfer programs available within the district,” said Shakerra Carter, Associate Dean of Outreach & Pre-Enrollment Services.
San Diego City College’s Cosmetology/Esthetician program is among the top community college programs of its kind in California, with students scoring a 100 percent pass rate on the practical section of the state licensing exam and a 94 percent pass rate on the written section.
The City College Cosmetology Department holds orientations for those interested enrolling in the Cosmetology, Esthetician, or Manicuring programs every Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. in Room 213 of the BT Building in San Diego’s East Village. The City College Cosmetology Salon and Spa, at 1081 16th St., is open to the public for a wide range of low-cost services, including hairstyling, hair coloring, haircuts, manicures, pedicures, and facials at prices beginning as low as $5. Walk-ins are welcome.
City College students have provided hundreds of free haircuts at the Fair the past few years.
