HOMELAND
SECURITY SECRETARY ASSESSMENT
Yesterday, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stated that the H1N1 virus was
thus far "not stronger than seasonal flu." Although it is important to
maintain diagnostic, prevention, and containment measures, there is some
cautious optimism that the pandemic, though geographically broad, may not
produce the severe results that were initially anticipated.
SDCCD INCIDENTS
Since yesterday, the following new reports are being investigated and monitored:
- 4 new cases of individuals with
flu-like symptoms were reported yesterday, and 1 today.
- All individuals went home and
are seeking medical treatment.
- No cases have been designated
probable and no cases have been confirmed.
HIGH
SCHOOLS TO REOPEN
It has been
announced that the closure of the three high schools in our area has been
reversed. In accordance with new guidelines for school closures from the
Centers for Disease Control, all three will reopen tomorrow: the Kearny
High Educational Complex, the
San Diego
School for Creative and Performing
Arts, and
Mission
Hills
High School
in
San Marcos.
Concurrently enrolled high school students at our campuses who were advised to
stay off campus per direction from the
County
Public Health
officials, have now been advised that they may return to campus since the high
schools are reopening.
HIGHER
ILLNESS STANDARDS
County
Health officials have provided new, higher
illness "standards" for ill individuals going to emergency
hospitals. As the virus progresses and the medical community and public
gain more experience with it, the level of alert has been somewhat modified.
Thank you
for your continuing patience, support, and suggestions.
