County ends swine flu public-health emergency
News in brief of countywide interest
2:00 a.m. June 9, 2009
SAN DIEGO: County supervisors yesterday formally terminated the public-health emergency they declared as a
result of the recent swine flu outbreak.
The decision came with none of the fanfare that accompanied the declaration in late April by Chief Administrative Officer Walter Ekard and
ratified by the board early last month.
At the height of the scare, county officials hosted daily press briefings and closed three public schools to prevent the spread of the previously unknown virus.
Through June 1, 212 people in the county were confirmed to have been infected with the disease. The county Health and Human Services Agency will continue to monitor cases.
