January 31, 2018
|
San Diego Community College District

KSDS-FM, San Diego City College’s member-supported public Jazz radio station, will honor Black History month by highlighting how African-Americans created and advanced the art form of Jazz.

Each year KSDS chooses a significant aspect of African-American culture and this year’s focus is the Harlem Renaissance Period, which has inspired countless jazz pieces but also significant literature and art. Listen every weekday, all month long, for a different historical aspect on the cultural mecca of Harlem. The content can also be viewed on the Black History Month web page at Jazz88.org. There will also be special programming dedicated to Harlem during the weekdays and weekends throughout the month.

On February 20, KSDS will focus its Jazz Live concert on Harlem as well. Pianist ELEW will perform and celebrate the Harlem piano style. Before the concert there will be a film presentation by General Manager, Ken Poston that will focus on Jazz and the Harlem Renaissance. The film will start at approximately 7:15 p.m. You must be a current Jazz88 member to attend this concert and film. To become a member you can contact Ken Borgers at 619-388-3301 or via e-mail at kenb@jazz88.org.
