San Diego Mesa College has announced the 2018 winners for the 25th annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony, where 175 students will be awarded approximately $240,000 in scholarships – the most ever awarded in the history of the college. The awards ceremony, hosted by the Mesa College Foundation, will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, April 20th at the Doubletree Hotel in Mission Valley.
”We are proud that our generous donors – consisting of faculty, staff, alumni, community partners and even students themselves – continue to come forward to support the success of our students,” stated Mesa College President Pamela Luster.
At the ceremony on Friday, Mesa College will be awarding more than 263 scholarships to 175 students - 62 of whom are receiving more than one award. The ceremony begins with a Meet and Greet and no-host social hour, continues with the recognition of donors and recipients, and concludes with dancing and socializing.
New program elements this year include the STEM Community Scholars Program, made possible by a grant from The San Diego Foundation. The grant provides stipends of up to $5,000 for 13 Mesa College students and funds an additional 35 students to participate in field trips, with additional costs funded under the Mesa College Title III STEM Conexiones Program. Also new this year was the opportunity to Sponsor the event itself, with funding by donors such as Mesa College Associated Students at the Olympian Silver level, California Coast Credit Union, The AFT Guild Local 1931, The Szeto Family, and University of Phoenix at the Olympian Bronze level, and Elizabeth Armstrong, Chancellor Constance Carroll and Dr. Pamela Luster at the Olympian Torch Bearer level.
Tickets to the Scholarship Awards Ceremony must be purchased in advance and the event is expected to sell out (no tickets will be sold at the door). Please visit the Scholarship Awards Ceremony webpage for more information and to see the list of award winners.
