The Skanska USA Civil West Scholarship provides funding for two veterans at San Diego City, Mesa, or Miramar colleges.

The scholarship will financially support the growth and development of selected participants to gain professional access to a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related field upon completion of a degree or certificate. Additionally, the recipients will be provided with a paid summer internship through Skanska USA Civil West. The deadline to apply is December 12, 2021.

Scholarship Description

The Skanska Scholarship will provide funding for two students enrolled at San Diego City, Mesa, or Miramar college. Each scholarship will provide one semester (Spring 2022) of support for: 

  • Enrollment Fee up to 15 units 
  • Student Health Fee 
  • Student Representation Fee 
  • Books up to $703.74 

The goal of the scholarship is to provide financial aid for veterans within the San Diego Community College District who are enrolled in STEM programs. 

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must have served in the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, or a reserve component.
  • Must be currently enrolled in 12 or more units at San Diego City, Mesa, or Miramar college.
  • Must complete an application for Financial Aid (FASFA). 
  • Must write an essay discussing their personal journey and college/professional endeavors. 
  • Must submit one letter of recommendation.
  • Must be pursuing a STEM related degree or certificate. 
Selection Criteria
  • The district scholarship committee will select qualified candidates.
  • Candidates will be required to participate in a short interview with Skanska.
  • Skanska will select the scholarship recipients.
