SDCCD Transfer Tracking Data

The data used in the following tables include students who were enrolled at SDCCD during the fall 1994 semester and transferred to a four-year institution from spring 1995 to spring 2002. The transfer data was collected from the National Student Clearinghouse, which captures enrollment data from 80% of 4-year institutions nationwide. The transfer institutions were divided into three categories: out of state/private, California State University (CSU), and University of California (UC). Table 1 shows the duplicated and unduplicated count of transfers by college. If a student enrolled in more than one transfer institution, they are counted more than once in the duplicated count, and only once in the unduplicated count. Of the students enrolled in fall 1994, about 25% transferred to a 4-year institution. Following are some key results from this data.

  • Asian students from all three colleges transferred to UC schools more than CSU and out of state or private. African American students transferred to out of state and private colleges more than CSU or UC. This was particularly evident at City where 25% of out of state or private transfers were African American versus 14% of transfers to CSU and 7% of transfers to UC.

  • Students from all three colleges over the age of 30 transferred to out of state and private schools more than UC and CSU.

  • Female students from Miramar transferred to UC and CSU more than out of state and private colleges. Male students from City and Mesa transferred to UC more than CSU and out of state/private schools.

  • City College had the highest percent of African Americans and Hispanics who transferred to a 4-year institution. This is to be expected since City had the highest proportion of African American and Hispanic students enrolled fall 1994.
