Underground utility potholing services have been completed. The design-builder received approval to proceed into the Design Development phase. Swing space planning has also advanced, with campus approval of a temporary bookstore and catering kitchen location at the Urban Discovery Academy site.

Post-bid interviews with subcontractors are concluding.

Project Features
The San Diego City College “A” Building Expansion project includes the abatement and demolition of the existing 32,400 SF Building D, followed by the removal and replacement of associated site utilities and appurtenances in alignment with the campus’s long-term Master Plan. New construction of approximately 71,500 assignable square feet (ASF) includes:
- Welcome Center
- Bookstore
- Commons / Food Services / Kitchen
- Outreach / Student Affairs / Student Services
Other features include:
- New utility infrastructure
- Reconstruction and/or reconfiguration of Gorton Quad
- Sustainable landscaping and irrigation
- Exterior and interior signage
