Mr. Bart Diaz

Bart is a native of Chicago, IL. and has been an Instructor at Great Lakes since August of 2007. He is the Lead Instructor and is a Subject Matter Expert in every facet of the Boatswains Mate Rate at BM "A" School and Surface Common Core (SCC). He served 23 years in the Navy at various Commands, to include, four ships, USS Saginaw LST 1188, USS Saratoga CV60, USS Ticonderoga CG47, and the USS De Wert FFG45, one overseas tour, Special Boat Unit 20 DET CARIB, and three shore duty, Service School Command, Great Lakes, IL; Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL; and Training Support Center, Great Lakes, IL. He's been a qualified Naval Instructor since 2000, and attained the Navy's certification of a Master Training Specialist for Instructors in 2002.

Rene served in the U.S. Navy before retiring as a Senior Chief Boatswain's Mate in 2007. During his 22 years of service, he has completed five forward deployed sea tours in Japan and two shore duties at Great Lakes, Illinois. At sea and shore, he held various responsibilities in training to include shipboard training team, technical instructor, curriculum developer/manager, testing officer and Computer Based Training (CBT) developer. He is experienced and qualified in the formal instruction of Surface Common Core (SCC), Boatswain's Mate (BM) and Gunner's Mate (GM) "A" schools. Off work, he spends a great deal of time with his family to make up for time spent underway. Rene and his wife reside in Gurnee, Illinois with their two sons.
