ICE agents began to pursue the passenger, who is a City College student, onto the City College campus. They quickly stopped as they recognized they were entering a college campus. The agents went back to their vehicles and left. ICE is no longer in the area and did not engage with anyone else on campus.
San Diego Community College District College Police identified and reported the presence of ICE per Administrative Procedure 3415 and had no interaction with the ICE agents. The agents departed the scene before any district representative could engage with them.
At this time, we believe the driver arrested by ICE is a City College student. We are providing support to the passenger.
Due to the sensitive nature of this matter, no additional details will be shared about the impacted individuals.
The campus remained open during the incident, and classes are continuing today as scheduled.
San Diego City College, the San Diego Community College District, and SDCCD College Police do not participate in, assist with, or coordinate ICE enforcement activities. This is required under California law (Government Code section 7284 and Education Code section 66093) and has been longstanding district policy since 2019 under AP 3415, Non-Participation in Immigration Enforcement Activities; Immigration Status Security.
This intrusion by law enforcement is both disruptive, unwelcome, and in conflict with the SDCCD’s core values. City College and the SDCCD are reaching out with counseling and legal services to support students and employees who were affected by this activity. The safety and wellbeing of students and employees will always be the district’s highest priority, and we remain committed to maintaining access to all members of our community.
City College and the district have a long history of serving, supporting, and uplifting our immigrant, refugee, asylum-seeking, and related communities. All students and employees are welcome, and no one should feel threatened at their school or place of work. We will work with our federal, state, and local representatives to ensure that any future law enforcement efforts take place well away from our campuses.
