SAMPLE ONE-DAY SUSPENSION

RE: NOTICE OF POST-DISCIPLINARY HEARING RIGHTS AFTER IMPOSITION OF ONE-DAY (OR LESS) SUSPENSION (FOR AFT/OT EMPLOYEES--NOTICE OF GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE RIGHTS AFTER IMPOSITION OF ONE-DAY SUSPENSION [OR LESS])
This is to advise you that on (date) , you were immediately suspended for one day (or less) from your job of (job title) .
The action was taken for the following listed grounds:
Reference Human Resources Manual Filing #DI-3110, Causes for Disciplinary Action and any other District or Department Rules believed to have been violated.
The above grounds are based upon the following acts or omissions:
(Set forth clearly and specifically all of the details, dates, places and events which gave rise to the suspension.)
Copies of the following documents which support the suspension are attached:

Copies of all documents, your personnel file, and other materials which supported the action taken will be made available in the (location) upon request during regular office hours.

If you believe the action taken was not appropriate, you have the right to respond to (name/title of official) either orally or in writing, or both, by (date--at least five work days from the date this letter is delivered to the employee). Your response will be considered before final action is taken.
If you wish to respond orally, please contact (person's name ) by (date) so that a specific time can be set for your oral response. You have the right to representation at this meeting. Written responses must be sent to (person's name) at (address).

If you believe the action taken was not appropriate, you have the right to grieve the suspension under Article XXI, Section 21.3.3 of the Office Technical bargaining agreement. You have ten (10) days from the receipt of this letter to file a written grievance on the "Grievance Form" with the Assistant Chancellor, Human Resources. Within ten (10) days of receipt of the completed Grievance Form, the Assistant Chancellor, Human Resources, will meet with you to resolve the grievance.
(The Assistant Chancellor, Human Resources shall provide the grievant and AFT with a copy of the written decision within ten (10) days following this meeting.)
