Anthropology symposium on student equity

September 29, 2016 | San Diego Community College District

San Diego Miramar College will hold a symposium on student equity from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, October 7. The focus will be on the success of African-American males in community college anthropology courses.

What can anthropology courses offer students of color, especially African-American males who have low "student success" rates?

How can we, as faculty, recognize and support students' experiences while engaging them in our subject?

Please join anthropology faculty from the San Diego Community College District to explore these questions.

Participants will be asked to complete short readings in preparation for discussion. The symposium will be held in K1-107. Lunch and coffee will be served. For more information or to reserve a seat contact Laura Gonzalez at lagonzal@sdccd.edu .
