March in the 37th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade

January 9, 2017 | San Diego Community College District

Hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and administrators with the San Diego Community College District will help spread the message and ideals of civil rights legend when they march at the 37th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, near the San Diego waterfront downtown.

Students, faculty, and staff from the SDCCD will line up at 2 p.m. at the County Administration Building parking lot at 1600 Pacific Coast Highway.

Sponsored by the County of San Diego, the Unified Port of San Diego and MetroPCS, the 37th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade is coordinated by the Zeta Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the oldest African-American fraternity in America. Dr. King was a member of the fraternity, which was founded in 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.

The parade is among the several events honoring Dr. King, who would have turned 88 on Jan. 15. Two days before the parade, SDCCD representatives will attend the 32nd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Human Dignity Award Breakfast sponsored by the Jackie Robinson YMCA at the Town & Country Resort in Mission Valley. On Saturday, Jan. 14, the district will take part in the MLK Educators Breakfast at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation.  And on Monday, Jan. 16, the district will take part in the All People’s Celebration at the Activity Center in Balboa Park.
