Miramar hires new Associate Dean for Student Equity and Academic Success

Dr. Jacqueline Honda is the new Associate Dean for Student Equity & Academic Success. She began her position Jan. 3. 

Honda comes to Miramar College from the University of Hawaii, West Oahu campus where she served as Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. During her tenure at UH, she also served as the Acting Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Accreditation Liaison Officer. Other leadership posts include: Associate Vice President for Retention and Inclusive Student Success; Director of Institutional Research; Planning and Assessment at Humboldt State University; and Director of Institutional Research at Rio Hondo College and Santa Monica College. She also served as an assistant professor of Higher Education Administration at the UH, Manoa.

Her resume includes substantial equity and planning related work which are certain to benefit our students and campus. “We have reorganized the Student Equity component of Student Development and the State, as well as our campus, is discussing integration possibilities for Student Equity, SSSP and Basic Skills,” said Gerald Ramsey, vice president of Student Services.

“For our campus efforts, PIEC, with Cabinet support, is leading this important and critical discussion. So, filling the Associate Dean position with someone of her caliber was not only critical but timely. Once you have an opportunity to learn more about Dr. Honda and the breath and diversity of her experience, coupled with her commitment to equity, you will understand why I am so excited.”

Dr. Honda’s educational background is as diverse as her professional work experience. She has an Ed.D from the UC Los Angeles, a Master’s in Demographics and Social Analysis from the UC Irvine, a Master’s in Asian Pacific Liberal Arts from the University of San Francisco, and a BA in Japanese from the State University of New York, New York.

Her office is located in The PLACe.
