Miramar College receives SDG&E grant to support of Vets-2-Jets program

As Veterans Day fast approaches, San Diego Miramar College is proud to announce that it has received a $25,000 grant from San Diego Gas & Electric Co. for its Vets-2-Jets program.
Miramar College created the Vets-2-Jets program to remove the financial barriers that negatively impact the academic success of disabled veterans. Through the career placement center, the program is able to assist veterans, who have a 20 percent or greater VA disability rating, with text book assistance, laptops for loan, and at times help with utility bills, housing and transportation needs. The funds are also used to sponsor on-campus movie nights and barbecues for all veterans. To date, the Vets-2-Jets program has purchased textbooks for more than 100 veterans.
“We wish to thank our community partner San Diego Gas & Electric for such a generous donation for the third consecutive year,” said Dr. Patricia Hsieh, president of San Diego Miramar College. “We have seen tremendous progress in the services we can now provide our disabled Veteran students thanks to these funds.”
With its close proximity to MCAS Miramar, San Diego Miramar College served the needs of 1,995 students who declared as active duty military or veteran during the last academic year.
