Mesa College to host student orientation
February 28, 2018 |
On Saturday, March 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mesa College will host "Jumpstart Your Success: Cash In on Community College," a FREE community event for prospective students and their families that will be an opportunity for students to learn about Mesa College programs and services.
“This is a great event for potential incoming Mesa students because when they come to our campus, they get a feel of what our community has to offer through academic and student services support,” said Victoria Miller, Dean of Student Affairs. “We have current students, staff and faculty on hand to provide encouragement that they will succeed in their journey here at Mesa.”

During the festivities, students will “get a feel for a day in the life of a Mesa student” through workshops that highlight the campus’ academic and student support resources, including financial aid and the Honors Program. Students will be able to interact with Peer Navigators, Student Ambassadors and the Associated Students. Entertainment will be provided by Mesa College’s World Music, Dance and Jazz Quartet. FREE lunch will be provided (while supplies last), and there will also be opportunity drawings at lunch to win one of four, $250 scholarships.
A new exciting activity this year will be “Jumpstart Your Success with Physical Sciences”, where attendees can explore interactive demonstrations and hands-on science activities. Mesa College STEM faculty will host demonstrations promoting physical sciences, including sun telescope viewing, catapult building, bridge engineering - all culminating with an exciting Exploding Volcano Demonstration! Jumpstart Your Success with Physical Sciences is held in conjunction with the Festival of Science and Engineering’s Festival Week, and will engage middle and high school students and families in the exciting demonstrations of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Students attending Jumpstart will have their names entered in the opportunity drawing to win one of four $250 scholarships to be applied toward enrollment fees during their first semester at Mesa College. Recipients have to be graduating high school seniors or transferring Continuing Education students to enter, and be present during the drawing of names to win.
Last year, more than 350 prospective students attended Jumpstart. Those planning to attend this year’s event are encouraged to register for free online. For more information about Jumpstart, contact Victoria Miller at email@example.com or 619-388-2699.
