San Diego Community College District

San Diego City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges along with San Diego Continuing Education are launching an ‘Undocumented Students Week of Action’ starting October 15, the latest initiative to codify the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program into federal law. 

California is home to more than 220,000 residents currently protected through the DACA program.

The California Community Colleges Board of Governors declared Oct. 15-19 Undocumented Students Week of Action when it met September 17 just a few miles from the U.S.-Mexico border at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. The Week of Action is a statewide, student-led campaign to advocate for creating a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients, along with supporting all undocumented students through institutional practices and connecting with community resources.

These are highlighted events happening throughout the SDCCD.

Thursday, Oct. 11

Friday, Oct. 19
Attorney Amie Scully will offer a Know Your Rights information session and provide updates on DACA-related policy changes from noon to 2 p.m. in Room MC-211.

Miramar College

Four-day postcard-writing campaign aimed at lobbying legislators to codify the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Students, faculty, and staff can take part in the campaign from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15 through Thursday, Oct. 18 in the K-1 Building. Miramar College is at 10440 Black Mountain Road, San Diego, 92126.

Tuesday, Oct. 16 
Know Your Rights webinar from 11am to noon in K1-202. This webinar will discuss protecting undocumented student rights.

Wednesday, Oct. 17
Resources for transferring to a 4-year institution will be available for undocumented students at the college’s annual Transfer Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Compass Point.

Continuing Education

Thursday, Oct. 18
Supporting Undocumented Students to Success Beyond the Classroom session from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Educational Cultural Complex, 4343 Ocean View Blvd., San Diego, 92113. Juanita Ledesma, Acting Dean of Career & College Transition, will detail how students can make informed decisions on career and educational programs.
