Friends of Downtown to award 35 scholarships

October 27, 2020 | San Diego City College

The Friends of Downtown will be presenting $750 scholarships checks to 35 deserving San Diego City College students via a social-safe drive-thru/walk-up station on campus from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2020. Students were chosen based on their academic achievement: GPA, number of units, a written essay and virtual interview. Select City College leaders will join in recognizing the scholarship recipients, as will members of the FODSD board of directors.

Friends of Downtown (FODSD) is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization made up of members who work and/or live in the downtown. FOD has awarded nearly $600,000 in scholarships to students of San Diego City College since 2000, and are the largest contributor of single scholarships to City College. Despite the pandemic, economic and social emergencies, FODSD has raised over $27,000 so far in 2020.
