Virtual 2021 International Education Week Conference

Join us for the virtual 2021 International Education Week Conference. Each day is hosted by one of our colleges. City College - November 17; Mesa College - November 16; and Miramar College - November 18.
SDCCD students will have the opportunity to attend interactive and engaging activities about International Education. International Education is a gateway to a more fulfilling educational experience and career. This year, the International Education Committees at City, Mesa, and Miramar Colleges have collaborated to coordinate a 3-day conference. This free conference features alumni who have participated in Study Abroad, scholarship workshops, Study Abroad Cost and Benefits session, Study Abroad with third-party companies, games, prizes, and more.

NOVEMBER 16 - MESA COLLEGE Virtual World Party

Peace Corps Information Session
1:45 to 2 p.m.
Serving in the Peace Corps is a great way to immerse yourself in a new culture, learn
a new language, and have the experience of a lifetime. Learn about Volunteer experiences,
and gain tips to guide you through the application process.
Voices from Abroad
2 to 2:30 p.m.
Cameron Martinez, former study abroad student living in Spain working abroad through
a government program.
Breakout Rooms
2:30 to 3 p.m.
Language exchanges (Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian), games and conversation, learn
new expressions, and explore local internships with Global Connections.
Study Abroad Scholarship Workshop
3 to 3:30 p.m.
Presentation about scholarship such as Gilman and the benefits. Guided by Study Abroad
Advisor.
Trivia Games, Winner of Cooking Contest, and Conclusion
3:30 to 4 p.m.

Infusing Access and Inclusion into Study Abroad

Build faculty-led programs for community college students that are accessible and
transformative, but also inclusive and equitable. Best practices for both faculty
and administrators who value the international education experience and want to support

Study Abroad with a Sustainability Focus

Presenter: Professor Pablo Martin
Sustainability Study Abroad: Society, Environment, Economy; Tentatively Planned for
Summer 2022, in La Ventana, Mexico. Review plans for a proposal to host a four-week
long program designed to offer students hands-on experiences in creating and maintaining
sustainable communities, service learning projects, or both. The study abroad program

Study Abroad Using a Third Party: The Case of EF
Noon to 1 p.m.
Presenter: Professor Laura González
Join travel enthusiast and anthropology professor Laura González for a conversation
about options for study abroad that include using third party companies. Laura has
traveled with students with Education First (EF) to Tokyo, Italy, and Peru. Come learn
about the pros and cons of using third party study abroad companies. Join on Zoom
Filipino Studies (FS) 100 Info Session
1:30 to 2:20 p.m.
Presenter: Professor Judy Patacsil
Professor Judy Patacsil will provide information on the Filipino American Experience
course. At the present time, FS100 is the only approved ethnic studies course offered
at Miramar College that meets the CSU Area F graduation requirement and Miramar is
the only college in San Diego that offers a Filipino Studies Certificate of Performance.
