District to raise Pride flag for first time at nine locations

May 30, 2023 | San Diego Community College District

For the first time in the San Diego Community College District’s 50-year history, the Pride Flag will be raised at each of its eight campuses and at its District Office. The flag raising is part of a month-long celebration of LGBTQIA+ Pride.

At the District Office the flag will be raised at 9:30 a.m. in the front parking lot. San Diego Community College District Acting Chancellor Gregory Smith, SDCCD Board of Trustees President Maria Nieto Senour, SDCCD students, employees and community representatives will provide brief remarks prior to the Pride Flag being raised.

Parking is available on Scheidler Way and in the parking lot behind the building.

Background
In April, the SDCCD Board of Trustees voted to declare June 2023, and every June thereafter, to be a districtwide celebration of LGBTQIA+ Pride. This includes raising the Intersex Inclusive Progressive Pride Flag at City College, Mesa College, Miramar College, College of Continuing Education and all district locations. June 28, is the 54th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, which was a catalyst for the modern LGBTQIA+ civil and social liberation movement. The SDCCD stands in solidarity with each of its students, employees and community members in our commitment to access, safety, dignity, acceptance, and inclusion.
