Keeping the Promise, to be held on Tuesday, October 25, is an opportunity for faculty, classified professionals, administrators and community members to make a difference in the life of a San Diego Promise student.
All gifts made during the Keeping the Promise giving day will support San Diego Promise students enrolled at San Diego City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges.
Donate to the San Diego Promise
Those who donate during the Keeping the Promise giving day can double their impact. Thanks to two generous donors, all contributions made up to a total of $15,000 during Keeping the Promise will be matched.
The San Diego Promise began as a pilot program in 2016 with an initial cohort of 186 students whose freshman year came tuition free. Since then, the program has served 10,232 students, welcoming over 3,251 of those participants in 2022-23 academic year.
Besides covering tuition, the San Diego Promise also provides grants to offset the cost of textbooks and other instructional supplies, counseling, and hands-on support to help students develop an educational pathway leading to their career goals.
Historically, the San Diego Promise was limited to first-time full-time college students. Through private funding, the San Diego Promise has provided additional pathways for special populations including foster youth, veterans, formerly incarcerated, undocumented students, adult learners transitioning from the San Diego College of Continuing Education to one of the district’s credit-colleges, and those who could not attend full-time due to unique circumstances.
When the giving day was last held in 2020, Keeping the Promise generated nearly $30,000 for Promise students, with 121 donors participating.
