District events celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, the San Diego Community College District, including San Diego City, Mesa, Miramar, and Continuing Education colleges are hosting a variety of events throughout the month of May. Attendees can choose from film screenings focused on Taiwan and ancient Hawaiian culture, take part in Japanese brush painting, participate in a town hall meeting to better serve the AAPI community, and more.

All events are free and open to the public. Among the highlights:

Kapwa Pop-Up Museum with Japanese Brush Painting Station
A storytelling event through personal artifacts, following the theme, "Where I'm From.” Students can make their own artwork at the Japanese brush painting station.

Additionally, throughout the month of May, the San Diego Mesa College Library Resource Center (LRC) will feature key AAPI figures and artwork from Professor Denise Rogers's fine art collection selected by Kapwa scholars. A wide visual display of AAPI culture and heritage will be showcased across the G Building and a variety of AAPI traditions will also be on display in front of Counseling Services room  I4-303 at Mesa College.
