The San Diego Community College District, including San Diego City, Mesa, Miramar, and Continuing Education colleges, will honor Native American Heritage Month throughout November with a series of events. 

As part of the observance, SDCCD will proudly raise the Kumeyaay flag, recognizing that its campuses are located on the ancestral lands of the Kumeyaay nation and celebrating the enduring culture and contributions of the Kumeyaay people. Raising and displaying the flag symbolizes the district’s ongoing commitment to its Indigenous communities and the Kumeyaay people.

Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Native American History & Culture
Drop by the Native Resource Center during College Hour from November 3–6 to watch a series of videos highlighting Native American culture and history.

Informational presentation about the tribes of San Diego County, their history, and their current way of life. It will also include an interactive component encouraging students to investigate which tribal lands they reside on, where they were born, or where they grew up, if not from San Diego.

Native Americans & the US Military featuring Staff Sergeant Raymond
Meet Staff Sergeant Raymond, a National Guard servicemember who is part of the Apache tribe, Cherokee, and Choctaw Native American tribes. Learn about his journey joining the Army and what he hopes for the future of Native Americans in the US military.
