District celebrates Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

The San Diego Community College District including San Diego City, Mesa, Miramar, and Continuing Education colleges will celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month throughout May with a series of events. The month will also feature Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) recognition ceremonies honoring the personal and academic achievements of graduating and transferring AAPI students.

Events are free and open to the public. Among the highlights:

WEDNESDAY, MAY 6

2 to 3:30 p.m.
LUNAR: The Jewish-Asian Film Project Screening
This multi-part documentary shows nuanced, unscripted conversations that dive deep into themes of belonging, traditions, cultural trauma, the model minority myth, discrimination, and Jewish intersectionality.

City College and Mesa College are proudly recognized as Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions by the U.S. Department of Education. This designation is awarded to California colleges and universities where at least 10% of the enrolled student population identifies as being of Asian or Pacific Islander descent.
