District celebrates Women's History Month

The San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) will celebrate Women’s History Month throughout March with a lineup of engaging programs, including film screenings, a student-led panel, a dance showcase, and more. Events will be held across City College, Mesa College, Miramar College, and the College of Continuing Education, honoring the contributions and achievements of women from history to the present day.

All events are free and open to the public. Among the highlights:

Monday, March 9

9:35 to 11 a.m.
“Is the Digital Age (AI) - Helping or Hurting The Way Women think?”
Join us for a thought-provoking conversation on how the digital age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is shaping women’s cognitive processing, decision-making, and daily experiences. Explore the benefits, challenges, and growing influence of technology, as we ask: how far is too far?

Gracia Molina de Pick - Feminist Lecture Series
A special lecture honoring Gracia Molina de Pick, founder of the Mesa College Chicana/o Studies Department, and her lifelong commitment to education, feminism, and the community college mission. Transborder Chicana Filmmakers Diana Cervera and Magdalena Ramírez will discuss their documentary Mujer Mariposa, which follows three first-generation daughters of migrant and refugee women as they navigate identity and belonging, while reflecting on the political legacies of U.S. imperialism and migration.

The Defining Voices of the Women in August Wilson's Plays
August Wilson, celebrated playwright, says his observations of the daily cultural performances of his mother informed his point of view in most of his plays. Five actors will perform iconic monologues from his award-winning plays that have the power to inform and celebrate ownership of voice in his female characters.

Movement is Medicine, Dancing in Native/Chicanx Communities
Join Angelica Yanez, a traditional Aztec dancer, poet, and local educator, as she leads a conversation using dance as a form of Indigenous identity reclamation. The storytelling performance will highlight Aztec dance traditions within Chicanx communities, as well as Pow Wow dancing practiced across Native nations in the United States.
