Leadership Development Academy Series
The Leadership Academies offered by the EPD Office are part of the District's overall succession planning effort. The Academies offer the participants the opportunity to learn new skills, examine current management philosophy, network with fellow colleagues and leadership professionals, and enhance their knowledge of the District's policies and procedures, mission, vision, and strategic planning goals.
The Management Leadership Development Academy offers training for current and new managers, and experienced supervisors who have a professional goal to promote to a management position. Curriculum consists of a combination of organizational management, strategic planning, skills and enhanced leadership development training. Additional training is available in the form of elective topic workshops, coaches/mentors, experiential assignments, peer networking, and recommended reading.
Eight half-day modules are scheduled within each semester and are facilitated by notable leadership development professionals. The academy is supplemented by a three-day Management Training Intensive (MTI) seminar which provides a high-level orientation to the role and responsibilities of District leaders in key subject domains and is presented by several SDCCD executive managers. The Academy includes a total of 60 hours of training.
The Supervisory Leadership Development Academy provides training for new and current Supervisors who have a professional goal to advance in their current position or promote to a higher-level supervisory position, as well as non-supervisory Lead employees who have a professional goal to advance into a Supervisory position. Curriculum consists of a combination of supervisory-level leadership development, personnel management, and team coordination skills training. Additional training is available in the form of elective topic workshops, mentors, job shadowing, online tutorial training, peer networking and recommended reading.
Half-day modules will be scheduled monthly for a total of eight during the semester and are facilitated by leadership development professionals. An additional Supervisory Training Intensive (STI) will occur during two, full days as part of this Academy. The STI will provide specific insight and orientation to the role and responsibilities of District Supervisors and operations and is presented by experienced district supervisors and managers. The Academy includes a total of 51 hours of training.
The Classified Leadership Development Academy offers training for Classified Staff currently working in a lead position or with the interest to move into a lead position or project lead capacity in the future. Curriculum consists of a combination of introductory leadership skills training, computer skills assessment and guided self-study on district specific functions and processes. Additional training is available in the form of elective topic workshops, online tutorial training, peer networking and recommended reading.
A total of five half-day modules will be scheduled within the semester and are facilitated by leadership development professionals. Guided independent self-study modules will be assigned between each scheduled Academy workshop. The self-study modules will be supported by two additional two-hour facilitated workshops which will provide the opportunity for feedback and questions on the assignments. The Academy includes a total of 20 hours of training plus 4 guided self-study modules with feedback.
This Faculty Leadership Development Academy, which includes the component of the Faculty Training Intensive (FTI) is offered to all faculty who have a professional goal to accept a leadership role among SDCCD faculty or to seek a management or supervisory leadership position. Curriculum introduces organizational management skills, enhanced leadership development training, multiple resources, and detailed insight to leadership within SDCCD. Additional training is available in the form of elective topic workshops, coaches/mentors, experiential assignments, peer-networking, and recommended reading.
A total of seven half-day modules are scheduled during the semester and are facilitated by leadership development professionals. The academy is supplemented by a two-day Faculty Training Intensive seminar which provides a high-level orientation to the role and responsibilities of District leaders in key subject areas. The Academy includes a total of 49 hours of training.
