Aileen Gum

Online Mentor for City College

Hello everyone! My name is Aileen Gum (she/her/hers). I have a B.A. in English, M.A in French Linguistics, & an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I teach English and ESOL at City College on-campus and online. What I enjoy most about being an Online Faculty Mentor is collaborating with faculty to find interesting and new ways to leverage technology to make learning engaging and accessible for students. Regardless of class modality, there is a smorgasbord of tools and options that we can use to remove barriers to learning and help connect students with each other and their instructors. Front seats for all 😊!

Greetings!  My name is Laura Murphy, and I have been teaching in the Biological Sciences Department at Miramar as a lead for Microbiology for nearly 20 years.  Prior to my position in the SDCCD, conducted research as  PhD candidate at UCSD and as a Postdoc/ Research Scientist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, both in the general field of cellular and molecular biology.   At Miramar, I have also taken on roles outside of teaching over the years, including SLO Coordinator, Accreditation Chair, and Academic Sente VP/President, and my most recent sabbatical involved the creation of an accessible OER lab manual for my students.  When I was asked to step in to the role of Online Faculty Mentor, I thought it would be a great opportunity to contribute to this important and rapidly evolving facet of education.  I look forward to collaborating with you all on this journey!

Tucker Grimshaw

Online Accessibility Mentor for City College.

I am excited to serve the San Diego City College faculty, staff, and students as an Online Accessibility Mentor. A bit about me: I was born and raised in San Diego and have lived in various places, including Hawaii and Idaho. My academic interests include Universal Design for Learning, disability studies, queer studies, equitable assessment practices, and first-year writing (to name a few).

Online accessibility is essential because I have noticed that voices are missing in academia. One way we can amplify silenced voices is by endeavoring to make our courses accessible to all.

Kristian Secor

Online Accessibility Mentor for Mesa College.

Hi! My name is Kris Secor and I'm your Accessibility Mentor at San Diego Mesa College. I've been a developer and educator for over 20 years now. I started doing a lot of eCommerce in the early 2000's. That's a world where you want everyone to have access to your work or you'll lose money!

That's where I developed a "progressive enhancement" mentality where we target the least functional devices when we build. At the leading college of equity and excellence, this attitude is also a must!
