The San Diego Promise continues its commitment to increasing college access, supporting student success, and strengthening educational pathways for thousands of local students.
Important Dates
Students are encouraged to complete the enrollment process, submit a Promise application, and complete admission requirements by May 22 to ensure early access to the program and the services available to prospective students.
Fall 2026 classes begin Monday, August 24.

A Comprehensive Support Program
In addition to covering tuition, the San Diego Promise offers a range of benefits designed to help students thrive, including:
- Coverage of per unit fees and health fees
- Access to peer mentors
- Dedicated student success coaches
- Support from academic counselors
- Book grants that can support the cost of textbooks and course materials for students with demonstrated financial need
This combination of financial and academic support ensures students have the necessary tools to stay on track and achieve their academic goals.
Who Is Eligible?
The San Diego Promise is open to a broad group of students, and includes three tracks for admission into the program including:
- Track #1 First time to any College
- Track #2 Returning SDCCD student who has not enrolled in classes for three main semesters (Fall or Spring, including intervening Summer terms)
- Track #3 Promise Special Populations Students who identify as:
- Current students or alumni of the San Diego College of Continuing Education
- LGBTQIA+
- Current or former Foster Youth
- Veteran of U.S. Armed Forces
- Justice Involved (Formerly incarcerated)
- Undocumented

A Decade of Impact
Launched in 2016 with 186 students, the San Diego Promise has grown into one of the region’s most significant college‑access initiatives. Over the last decade, the program has expanded its reach and scope, offering not only free tuition but also a robust suite of services designed to foster academic success and student well‑being.
As the program enters its 10th year, SDCCD continues its commitment to student equity, persistence, and degree completion.
