Training & Workshops
Core Training workshops offer employees the opportunity to acquire and augment the core competencies required within classifications and job families. Development of these basic competencies will assist the employee to excel in their careers with SDCCD. Employees may participate in Core Training workshops whether or not they are participating in an Academy program.
Core competencies workshops will be available for all key areas such as Business Services, Human Resources, Student Services, Instructional Services and Facilities Services. Some examples of Core Training include:
- Accounting Systems
- Conducting Employee Performance Evaluations
- Discipline & Due Process
- Diversity in the Workplace
- Grant-writing
- Payroll Considerations & Timekeeper Responsibilities
- EEO Diversity Training for Screening Committees
Target Training workshops are developed in consultation with the manager or supervisor in response to a specific need or interest, as well as to enable employees to correct deficiencies or meet basic requirements of the job.
Mandated Training is presented in response to the District's compliance requirements with Federal, State or District mandates and includes Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, or OSHA required training.

Employee Assistance Program Workshops
The San Diego Community College District's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is sponsored by California Schools VEBA and provided by OPTUMHealth. The District's EAP offers many workshops related to workplace and work/life issues. These workshops are presented by experienced training professionals specifically selected by OPTUMHealth.
Workshops target a wide variety of concerns such as:
- Professional Development for Managers and Supervisors
- Human Resources/Workplace Concerns and Work Skills
- Wellness and Work/Life Seminars
Workshops are available in a variety of lengths from 30-minute sampler programs to full course length of up to 4 hours. A complete list of courses offered is provided below. To schedule a workshop, please download and complete the Training Program Order Form and submit to the Employment & Professional Development Office. Please submit the training request at least 6 weeks prior to the preferred date of training.

VEBA Lunch and Learn Workshops
Through California Schools VEBA, Healthy Adventures Foundation offers a number of lunch and learn topics that surround themes of health, such as nutrition, physical activity, stress reduction, time management, conflict resolution, healthy communication, know your numbers, disease management, healthy cooking classes, and more!
Workshops can be tailored to fit specific timeframes and more physical classes can be modified to accommodate individual abilities. A broad list of courses offered is provided below.

Other Online Training
The San Diego Community College District has partnered with Keenan & Associates, an industry leader in insurance, employee benefits and financial solutions for California schools and community colleges to provide online training options in a variety of topics. This training may be taken individually from your personal work station or it may be viewed by a group as team training.
