Live scan fingerprinting

What is a LiveScan?
A "Live scan" is an electronic means of capturing fingerprints and transmitting them to the State of California Department of Justice (DOJ) or Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to run a criminal background check.

What are the requirements?

  • You need a scheduled appointment
    • Please call 619-388-6416 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are required for all Live Scan services, we do not accept walk-ins.
  • You will need a Live Scan Form
    • All live scan services, with the exception of Personal Reports (Record Review), require the customer to provide the live scan form. This form is provided by the agency requesting that the live scan be performed and includes a unique ORI and mail code necessary for the proper transmission and reporting of background information. It is the applicant's responsibility to bring the appropriate form and to have all information completed properly. Without this completed form, we will not be able to perform the scan and your appointment will need to be rescheduled.
      • If a live scan form was not provided to you, contact the agency requesting the live scan.
    • Personal Records Review forms are available at our office
    • For San Diego Community College District positions only, download the form here:SDCCD Employees Only (PDF)
  • You will need to pay for the Live Scan prior to receiving services
    • The total cost for live scan fingerprints varies, depending on Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI processing fees. Applicants are required to pay these fees in advance as well as a $20 rolling fee to have your prints captured and submitted by our office.
    • We accept cash, mastercard and visa credit/debit payments. We can only accept credit/debit card payments from the owner of the card and with valid identification.
    • There are no refunds given for Live Scans performed.

  • You will need to have valid identification
