Career Education Program Advisory Committees
California Education Code §8070 (Article 3) and the Curriculum Standards Handbook for the California Community Colleges require the use of career-technical advisory committees for the purpose of continuous exchange between professional educators and those in the private and public industry sectors.
Historically, the San Diego Community College District has utilized advisory committees to ensure quality and relevance in our career technical programs. Over the years, advisory committees have helped us shape, implement, and reshape our programs to meet the ever changing job market and economy that we live in.
Industry Advisory Committees are needed to:
- provide an opportunity for discussion among educators, business, and industry
- focus on how to improve Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities
- strive to improve the alignment between CTE, business, and industry
- provide expertise to the program by reviewing curriculum, technology, facilities, funds, student competencies, and student placement in related occupations
