Chancellor's Cabinet Report 09-01-26

Prior Week’s Key Accomplishments:

City College:

1. “A” Building Expansion: Design Development (DD) workshops with the facilities group were held on Aug. 24 and Aug. 27.

2. “A” Building Renovation: A design kickoff meeting was held on Aug. 25. The renovation is a separate project being designed concurrently with the “A” Building Expansion and will be sequenced to follow the expansion work.

3. Hardscape Improvements: The final acceptance walk was held on Aug. 28.

Mesa College:

1. Pool Building Structural and Door Replacement: Engineer-designated changes were completed over the weekend of Aug. 22–23. The project entered the closeout phase on Aug. 24.

2. Athletics Complex: The 100% Schematic Design (SD) construction cost estimate reconciliation review was submitted on Aug. 25. A project coordination meeting with the Design-Build Entity (DBE) and district was held on Aug. 26, followed by meetings with the DBE, district design team, and geotechnical engineers on Aug. 28 to continue coordinating shoring and structural design considerations.

3. Performing Arts Center (PAC) / Administration & Parking Structure: The first DD workshop was held on Aug. 26 with the DBE, district design team, and campus stakeholders to review the parking structure design, signage, administration spaces, terraces, and World Art Gallery. A project coordination meeting with both project DBE teams, the district, and campus was also held on Aug. 26.

4. Design Center Improvements: An in-person review of Division of the State Architect (DSA) backcheck comments was held on Aug. 27 to review feedback on revisions made in response to the initial plan review.

5. Learning Resource Center (LRC) Building Emergency Generator Replacement: A recommendation to award the contract to the lowest responsive bidder, Neema General Contracting, was presented to the Board of Trustees on Aug. 27.

6. Parking Garage Overhead Door Replacement (PS-100) Building: A recommendation to award the contract to the lowest responsive bidder, Eroom, Inc., was presented to the Board of Trustees on Aug. 27.

Miramar College:

1. Early Education Center: The district and campus reviewed the Increment 2 100% DD deliverable during the week of Aug. 24.

2. Aviation Instructional Center: A site walk with the DBE and City of San Diego at Montgomery Field was held on Aug. 25 to discuss potential alternate sites.

3. Performing Arts Center & English/Gallery Building: The DBE and Kitchell Estimating held a cost estimate reconciliation meeting on Aug. 26 to review the 100% SD estimate.

4. Parking Garage Overhead Door Replacement (G1 and G4) Building: A recommendation to award the contract to the lowest responsive bidder, Superior Door Systems, was presented to the Board of Trustees on Aug. 27.

College of Continuing Education:

1. West City Expansion: A Clothing and Textiles focus group meeting was held on Aug. 24, followed by a multipurpose room and courtyard focus group session on Aug. 28.

2. CE Harbor View Third Floor Patio Tile Replacement: A final punch list was established, and the project reached substantial completion on Aug. 21.

3. New College of Continuing Education (CCE) Site: A building layout presentation to the President’s Executive Cabinet was held on Aug. 25.

4. CE Harbor View Parking Garage Overhead Door Replacement: A recommendation to award the contract to the lowest responsive bidder, Eroom, Inc., will be presented to the Board of Trustees on Aug. 27.

Coming Week Look-Ahead:

City College:

1. “A” Building Expansion: A president and executive review committee review of DD is scheduled for Aug. 31.

2. Learning Resource Center (LRC) Library Remodel: A meeting with the campus is scheduled for Aug. 31 to review the updated budget for the expanded scope, including improvements to the first, second, and third floors, swing space cost considerations, and next steps.

Mesa College:

1. Design Center Improvements: The bid schedule and document package are scheduled for advertisement and posting during the week of Aug. 31.

2. Performing Arts Center / Administration & Parking Structure: A DD workshop with Costume Shop stakeholders, the DBE, and district design team, is scheduled for Sep. 2.

3. Athletics Complex: The DBE and district will continue working to reconcile the 100% SD cost estimate.

Miramar College:

1. Police Academy (A200) Building HVAC Upgrades (10 Classrooms and 2 Offices): ACCO Engineered Systems is scheduled to complete the final punch items by Aug. 30.

2. Diesel Tech (C3) Building Roll-Up Door Repairs: The project kicked off on Aug. 21 and is currently underway, with completion scheduled for Aug. 31.

3. Early Education Center: A DD meeting with stakeholders is scheduled for Sep. 2 to review design updates and discuss the play yard.

4. Aviation Instructional Center: The DBE will continue development of the 50% Construction Document (CD) deliverable and coordinate with San Diego Gas & Electric on the new electrical service required for the building. A site walk with the DBE and the City of San Diego at the potential relocation site is scheduled for Sep. 2.

5. Performing Arts Center & English/Gallery Building: The DBE will continue development of the 50% DD deliverable, while the campus reviews the revised exterior rendering options and confirms the preferred design direction.

College of Continuing Education:

1. West City Expansion: A focus group meeting with the district electrical and plumbing teams is scheduled for Sept. 1, followed by a stakeholder design meeting on Sept. 2.

2. New College of Continuing Education (CCE) Site: A DSA fire and life safety coordination meeting is scheduled for Sept. 2.

3. CE Mesa Ceramics: A project scope review meeting for this new project is scheduled for Sept. 3.

College of Continuing Education:

1. Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) New Facilities Building: A recommendation to award the DBE contract will be presented to the Board of Trustees on Aug. 27.
