Upon admission to San Diego City, Mesa and Miramar Colleges, students are given a placement level based on their high school performance. In your placement email, you should have received a reading (R##) and writing (W##) score with a level of 30, 40, or 50.

ENGL 101X - English 101 with Support
This Learning Community (ENGL 101X) combines English 101 (Reading and Composition) with English 031 (Academic Literacy) in a 5-unit English reading, writing, and critical thinking class. ENGL 101X is a college-level composition class. In this class you will read from a range of texts and conduct research in order to complete a variety of assignments, including academic essays.

ENGL 105X - English 105 with support
This Learning Community (ENGL 105X) combines English 105 (Composition and Literature) with English 031 (Academic Literacy) in a 5-unit reading, writing, and critical thinking class. In this class you will read from a range of texts and conduct research in order to complete a variety of assignments, including academic essays. ENGL 105X is a college-level composition class that uses literature for the primary readings.
Note: If your goal is to transfer, meet with a counselor or check with the university you intend to transfer to and ensure that this class meets the requirement for college composition. Some universities require English 101 instead of English 105.
