Prior Week’s Key Accomplishments:
City College:
- A successful sneak peek and virtual tour event was held for the new affordable student housing community on Nov. 7. The event drew a significant turnout of City College faculty, classified professionals, staff, and guests, and garnered very positive media coverage.
- The Harry West Gym Design service proposal is with JWDA (architects) for revisions to add a fire alarm and intrusion system device replacement scope.
- Outdoor Athletics Expansion – Weekly design check-in meetings are being held with stakeholders, and a kick-off meeting is scheduled for the week of Nov. 10.
- Bldg. ‘V’ HVAC and Boiler Replacement – Awaiting Bender Dean (mechanical engineer) to return a revised proposal addressing review comments.
- Saville Theater – The first design workshop was held on campus on Nov. 7 with more than a dozen stakeholders and great input.
- Internal coordination meetings took place with all design-build entities to confirm overall programming workshops, site tours, and establish decision-making protocols with the college executive committee.
- A pricing proposal was requested from the contractor for the Garfield Parking Garage Elevator.
Mesa College:
- Performing Arts Center / Administration & Parking Structure – The first round of workshops has been completed, and the PMO team is awaiting the recap/progress report from the Design/Build team to memorialize these efforts.
- Bldg. ‘Z’ Design kickoff meeting scheduled for week of Nov. 10.
- Performing Arts Center / Administration & Parking Structure – A meeting took place with the administrative leadership group to review program and space needs and discuss potential space efficiencies.
- Athletics Complex – Ongoing coordination between Mesa College, the district, and PMO/Design Teams regarding additional requested programming scope. Second round of workshop meetings are anticipated to begin in late November. Developed Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) budgets with the design/build teams to support these discussions.
Miramar College:
- Pricing proposal requested from contractor for elevator repair at C-1 building.
- Montgomery Field Aviation Instructional Center – Met with the Campus Infrastructure Technology (IT) team to determine the project’s IT needs.
- Performing Arts Center (PAC) & English/Gallery Project – A program-focused meeting was held to discuss how the drama and music programs will interact. A program-focused meeting centered on English also occurred.
- Early Education Center – The design/build team met with campus stakeholders to present the recommended options and obtain feedback.
College of Continuing Education:
- ECC Theater – Footing excavation is completed and inspected. Rebar work is starting the week of Nov. 10, with a footing pour scheduled for the Friday before Thanksgiving.
- Internal coordination meetings occurred with all Design Build Entities to confirm overall programming workshops, site tours, and establish decision making protocols with the college executive committee.
Other District Locations:
- A fair market value analysis is under review for solar PV buy-outs (multiple sites).
- A pricing proposal was requested from the contractor to replace the ice machine in the third-floor break room. (District Office)
Coming Week Look-Ahead:
City College:
- The Design/Build teams for the Saville Theater & Bldg. ‘A’ Expansion projects have scheduled weekly workshop meetings for the duration of the programming phase through January 2026.
- Athletics – A programming meeting is scheduled with campus leadership on Nov. 13 to review the conceptual plan.
- An Arts and Humanities Roof Repair preconstruction kickoff meeting is scheduled for Nov. 10.
- Guided site tours for buildings A, D and T are scheduled on Nov. 11 with the Design Build Entity as part of the ‘A’ Bldg. Expansion Project.
- The Outdoor Athletics stakeholder kickoff meeting is scheduled on Nov. 15.
Mesa College:
- Child Development Center Roof Repair Preconstruction kickoff meeting on Nov. 10.
- Performing Arts Center / Administration & Parking Structure – Coordinating with stakeholders to schedule Programming Meeting #3 week of Nov. 10; second round of design workshops are ongoing.
- Design Center Improvements – Attended project kickoff meeting and reviewed scope of work with the architect and campus stakeholders.
- Athletics Complex – Ongoing discussions with stakeholders regarding programming scope and potential program/space efficiencies. Meeting with faculty scheduled for Nov. 14.
Miramar College:
- Montgomery Field Aviation Instructional Center – Finalizing the program document.
- Performing Arts Center & English/Gallery Project – Program focus meeting to be engaged with Visual Arts, along with a program concept meeting with all user groups.
- Early Education Center – Finalizing the program document.
College of Continuing Education:
- Supplemental geo-technical investigations scheduled on Nov. 14 for Ceramics Expansion and Renovation and Building Trades Training Center.

Key Items of Interest:
- ECC Theater – Pantry relocation coordination has been confirmed with the campus and is currently being priced up for approval prior to proceeding.
- A Capital Renovation Renewal and Site Improvement meeting is scheduled with district and campus leadership on Nov. 12.
- The structural engineer provided the preliminary structural assessment draft for the voluntary seismic upgrade project. Supplemental site visits were held on Nov. 4 to determine exploratory testing sites with college leadership. (ECC)
Upcoming Needed Campus Action Items (Time Sensitive):
- Early Education Center – Finalizing the program document. Need campus direction to validate the user-requested offices and classrooms. A decision is needed by end-of-day Nov. 14 to avoid further deviation from the schedule. (Miramar)

- Need clarification on the procedure for requesting additional funds if program needs have changed/expanded since the Facilities Master Plan approval. (Mesa)
- Awaiting confirmation on Swing Space preference for the Welding Renovation project by President King to maintain the current construction schedule and minimize potential instructional impacts. (CCE)
- Need confirmation from OESF on what budgets are available for the Mid-City Expansion and Mid-City Renovation projects. Both projects are listed as ‘Funding Pending’ in the Master Program. With projects being actively programmed, direction is needed by the end of November so we can program the spaces correctly. (CCE)
